Vertralla to Sutri 24K

We are leaving Vertralla today. Heavy rain all night but we have woken to sunshine and blue skies. We've stopped off at the supermarket for our lunch today as we'll be in the middle of nowhere when we set off. We must have looked interesting to say the least, I was wearing a poncho...looking like a right pair of pilgrims!

Coffee in a very lovely cafe with very friendly staff before we set off for Sutri.

Some pictures of Vertralla:

Vertralla to Sutri 24k

We weren't sure what to expect but headed into the National Forest. Then I remembered wild boar are common from our trips to France. Lizards seem not a problem with this potential!

We talked ourselves out of the danger. After all, they have 100s of acres...why would they chase us?

Then as we were walking through this beautiful forest, we heard a thud.

Pleased to say it was just my salad and apricot cake for lunch falling out of my rucksack...phew! Gretal moment diverted.

We then came to some stunning nut orchards. Nutbush City Limits - Tina Turner came racing through my head. I think they were almond orchard.

We then had the most magical 4-5K through an ancient forest, following streams, waterfalls and bridges.

Capranica

Completely unexpected was the hilltop town of Capranica. A maze of ancient alleys and house, high up and looking precarious. I'm sure Ang's pictures will show how beautiful it was. We met lots of cyclists doing the Italy unguided bike race.

Sutri

We arrived at our accommodation in Sutri. A very old house precariously sitting in another hilltop town. We were welcomed by a lovely couple with no English and us no Italian. They thought the translator on Ang's phone sounded like Barry White...

We went to a bar and met some lovely locals. A young couple had a dog, which made me miss Frank!

Today was harder, with warmer weather and I have a blister! Xxx
